What We're Learning:

Reading: Comprehension, Fluency, and Point of View - Flat Stanley

We have been loving our Flat Stanley book study! Students are reading the book in class to prepare for their Spring Break Project. They will bring their own Flat Stanley with them over break and document their adventures in a journal. This will be taken for a grade, and it is due the Tuesday 4/10, when we return to school.

Grammar- Time being used for Personal Finance

We are caught up on our Grammar Skills and will be using that time in our schedule to learn about Personal Finance. Students will be learning about Goods & Services, Needs & Wants, Saving & Spending, and Opportunity Costs.

Social Studies- Human Rights and Elected Officials

We have been learning about the titles and locations of our Elected Officials, and are now beginning to learn about Jimmy Carter and his fight for Human Rights. We will be completing a study guide together on Friday that students will need to study over the break (we will test on the Wednesday when we return 4/11). If your child will NOT be at school on Friday, it is vital that you let me know so I can send a study guide with them before they leave. If not, they won't have the packet until the Monday we return.

VOCABULARY TO KNOW: government, president (Donald Trump), governor (Nathan Deal), mayor (Mike Bodker), human rights, responsibilities, civility, & dependable.

Math: Unit 5 Geometry and Fractions

We have been hard at work learning about shapes and their attributes, and I ask that you continue working on the following skills at home in reference to the triangle, square, rectangle, trapezoid, rhombus, pentagon, hexagon, and cube. Students should be able to:

- draw and name each shape

- name the number of sides, angles, vertices, and faces

- compare and contrast any 2 shapes

In class we are going to be focusing on fractions. Students will learn how to identify if a shape is divided into equal parts, identify halves, thirds, and fourths, and be able to partition a shape in halves, thirds, or fourths themselves.

-- IXL math activities: T.1, T.2, T.3, T.4, W.1, W.2, and W.3.

Thank you for all that you do,

Mrs. Crisp
