What We're Learning:

Phonics: Long and Short vowels

Please be sure your child is practicing their spelling words in some capacity weekly.

Reading: How Can Images Clarify/Add to Understanding of a Text

This skill is all about how photos, illustrations, diagrams, charts, and graphs can help a reader understand a topic better. We are incorporating this in with our writing, and our projects. Students will be adding a visual to their presentations for the 16th!

Writing: Informational Writing

We are continuing (and will shortly be wrapping up) our Informational Unit. Please have students practice this at home by writing about anything they are an expert on! Our biggest struggle is including LOTS of information, organizing using transitions, and writing an ending to wrap up the piece. Students often stop with a fact, but should learn to cap off their piece with a concluding sentence such as, "As you can see, James Oglethorpe was key in making Georgia what it is today." Or, "It is clear that Tigers are unique, spectacular animals."

Grammar: Speaking/Listening Skills

We will be using our grammar block the next two weeks to help us practice and prepare our presentations. Students will learn how to present with clear, loud voices, have eye contact with an audience, and use appropriate body language. They will also learn how to give their peers appropriate feedback.

Social Studies: Projects!

We are hard at work on our projects, and are continuing to add, edit, revise, and tweak them. Please remember that attendance is directly linked to students' success!

A study guide will go home on Friday to prepare for our test on the 17th. Please NOTIFY ME if your child will not be present that day. They will have to take the test prior to leaving.

Math: Reviewing Unit 2

We will be reviewing and preparing for our test this week. Please remember to use the journals as your study tool, as the questions and activities mirror the test closely. Simply change names/numbers/details and have students resolve.

Thank you for all that you do,

Mrs. Crisp
