Things are certainly getting egg-citing around here!

Important Dates/Info:

--- Just like with their Creek & Cherokee projects, we are inviting you to come watch presentations on Friday May 19th, from 8:45-9:30.

--- Friday May 5th - Final Science Test! A study Guide will be sent home with your child on Monday May 1st.

--- Also, all media center books are due by May 5th.

What Are We Learning?

Reading: Using Nonfiction text features to understand more about a topic. Read nonfiction books at home and have your child point out the various text features, such as: diagrams, captions, maps, graphs, etc. Talk about how these can teach the reader more.

Writing: Using persuasive letters to recommend a book! Students are writing about their opinions of nonfiction books, and writing letters to recommend these books to other readers. Again, reading nonfiction books at home will aide in this process!

They will also start recommending fiction books toward mid-week.

- This is kind of like that last 10 minutes of every Reading Rainbow episode, where kids talk about their favorite books and WHY they love them. "You Tube" some of those for a little bit of insight!

Phonics: R controlled vowels (ar, are, air) plus our curriculum/content words

Grammar: Shades of Meaning (strength of verbs and adjectives) Students will be learning about the difference is the shades of meaning of different verbs an adjectives. For example, although both mean "sad", the words "upset" and "distressed" have different strengths to them.

Other examples include "mad" and "furious", and "sip" and "gulp".

- IXL practice = II.3 & 11.4

Math: Creating Arrays and Repeated Addition Sentences to go with them.

- IXL practice = E.21, E.22, E.23, and E.24.

Science: Frog Life Cycles

Hopefully by now you have heard all about Farmer Black and her request for help. Students will need to become experts on life cycles and caring for living organisms in order to help educate Farmer Black's customers! To help us learn more, we have plants, ladybugs, and butterflies in the classroom currently. Our eggs arrived, and we will need to take care of them and the eventual chicks!

Thank you for everything you do to help your child be successful!
