Welcome back!
I am so excited to be surrounded by these 23 smiles again!
Thank you again to everyone who sent in supplies to help use make it through these last two months of school.
We are in for many fun-filled weeks to come!
Important Dates:
-- Milestones testing is April 13th - April 25th. Although 2nd grade will not be testing, our schedule is impacted and visitors will not be able to eat lunch with students during testing dates. We apologize for the inconvenience, but appreciate your support in the matter.
--April 20th, Field Trip to the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center to learn about bees and pollination. A permission slip will be sent home this week. Please complete this form and return it by Mon. April 17th.
Upcoming Assignments and Tests:
Tuesday, April 11: Flat Stanley Journals and any souvenirs must be at school. This is a homework grade.
Thursday, April 13: Science homework will be sent home. As always, this assignment will be due the following day.
What are We Learning?
Reading: Using non-fiction text features to understand and clarify text.
-- Have your student continue to read aloud to you for 20 minutes each night. Try reading both fiction and nonfiction texts. Be sure to have your students make inferences about the plot, characters, etc. as they read.
Writing: Review and wrap-up our informational writing unit. Students will write their final informational piece on Friday the 14th for a grade.
Spelling/Phonics: Diphthongs ou and ow.
Grammar: Compound words (e.g., butterfly, ladybug, starfish, etc.).
-- IXL language arts activities: MM.1, MM.2, and MM.3
Math: Geometry - review plane (2-D) shapes and begin introducing fractions.
-- Have your child continue to practice their addition and subtraction skills at home, as we do not want these to get rusty! At school, our focus will be more on geometry. Please see the attached photo about Polygons! We are learning about attributes of polygons, such as number of sides/angles/vertices, and sets of parallel lines. We will only study one 3-D figure, the cube. We will then move into fractions!
-- IXL math activities: T.1, T.2, T.3, T.4, W.1, W.2, and W.3.
Science: Plant and Insect life cycles.
-- Talk about what you know and can observe with plant and insect life cycles! Watch videos together at home! Have fun with it, this is an awesome unit!
Health: Review school expectations - being respectful, responsible and ready to learn.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!
Thank you,
Mrs. Crisp
