Important Dates:
--- Friday, February 10th from 8:30 - 9:30- Presentations!
We invite and encourage you to stop by to see students answer the question, "How do we, as historical preservationists, justify the importance of the Creek Indians?"
Students should dress to impress! If they are in a skit, and are taking on the Creek Indian role, they should dress the part. The hour of presentations will be much like the Wax Museums of 3rd grade if you are familiar with those- you do not need to stay the whole hour, but come and go as you please.
--- Wednesday, February 8th there will be math homework, as usual it is due the next day.
--- Valentines Day (Tues 14th): Students will decorate small lunch bags to carry their treats in, please do not send in or decorate any shoe boxes. If you choose to send valentines treats, please remember that there should be one for EACH child. (I or our lovely room moms will be reaching out for some help with sticker/decoration/bag donations in the near future!)
Notes from Mrs. Crisp:
--- As students finish their projects and begin prepping for their presentations, it is very important that they are in school. Please be as mindful of this as possible.
--- Since students have learned about capitalization and punctuation, and since they are that much closer to being 3rd graders, the expectation is for them to use these correctly, and consistently. That being said, on works that require students to write short answers, they will always need to start with capital letters and end with punctuation. They will begin losing points for failure to do so.
What are we learning?
Reading: Cause and Effect
We will be studying the relationship of cause and effect, please try to discuss and identify these at home throughout your day and when your child is doing their nightly 20 minutes of reading.
EXs: I forget to do my chores (cause), so I couldn't play outside with friends (effect).
I got soaking wet (effect), beCAUSE I forgot my umbrella (cause).
Writing and Social Studies:
We will be adding the finishing touches to our projects and begin practicing our presentations!
Phonics: Short i, o (CVCC) and Long i, o (VCC)
Health: Handling Mistakes
Grammar: Friendly Letters
Students will continue practicing writing friendly letters, being sure to include all 5 parts (heading, greeting, body, closing, and signature), and the 3 commas in the correct location. Have students practice this at home by writing to long distant family members!
IXL: F.2, BB.1, BB.2, BB.3, and BB.4.
Math: Unit 4
We're continuing to strengthen our mental math abilities by practicing adding and subtracting 10's and 100's- the object is to do this quickly, and completely in our heads.
As we move on in the unit, students will be learning how to add 3 and 4 two-digit numbers. For example: 34 + 21 + 19 + 42 + ____
--- IXL Practice: G.1, H.1, I.1, J.1, G.13, G.15.
It is very important to remember that 2nd graders cannot use the standard algorithm to solve problems. Please re-watch the videos that show our accepted methods:
