As we near the end of our semester, here is all you need to know:
Important Dates:
Thursday 15th- Red Folders/Graded papers go home- please return by the next day.
Friday 16th- First half of Unit 3 Math Test
Tuesday 20th- Grammar Test
Wednesday 21st- Winter Party
Thursday 22nd- Last day of School!
What are we learning?
READING: We're focusing on on reading fluently, including using different voices for different characters. At school we were actually reading skits and plays to practice this! At home, model using fun voices for characters with each other.
WRITING: Continuing our Opinion Unit! Students are still learning how to write about their opinions, and support them with reasons. Having discussions at home, or even writing notes back and forth about your opinion are great ways to practice this skill.
LANGUAGE: Using " 's " to show possession- for example, Nikki's class or the boy's shirt. Practice finding examples of these out in the 'real world' or in books.
IXL Practice: G.1-G.5
We will have a Grammar Test on the skills we have covered during the first semester.
The following skills on IXL will be helpful in reviewing for the test. They can all be found in the grade 2 Language Arts section of IXL, and in your child’s ELA Journal.
Sentence Types: A1
Possessive Nouns: G1, G2, and G3
Contractions: W1 and W2
Reflexive Pronouns: R1 and R2
Collective Nouns: There is not practice for this on IXL. Collective Nouns are a group of things, for example, “a school of fish”, or “a pack of wolves”.
MATH: Assessing Unit 3- Friday's test will only be the first half of the unit on measurement and number lines. Please use math journals AND the packets that students are bringing home to study with. We will continue this unit upon our return.
IXL Practice: S.2, S.3, S.4, S.8, S.9, S.10, S.15, and A.6.
SCIENCE: Matter/Solids, Liquids, and Gases- We will start by focusing on the 3 states and examples of them, and then move into how they can change after the break. (ex ice can melt, so it can go from a solid to a liquid)
Friendly Reminders:
- Please be sure to return The Lorax permission slips before the 21st.
- Please, please remind your child to pack a snack each day. There are several students who have to take from our emergency stash several times a week. It is a great lesson in responsibility- it is going to start being monitored next semester, and the rule will be that you can only have an emergency snack once a week.
- Our recess is at 9:45 am, so it is generally still chilly out. Please send your kiddos with coats/hats/etc. If it is below 41 degrees, Fulton Co's policy is that we do not go outside.
Thanks for all you do!
