What are we learning?
READING: Comparing and contrasting two texts on the same topic. This is where we read about the same topic through different books/articles/etc. For example, you could read a book about Sharks, and read a National Geographic article about Sharks! Discuss what points both authors made, and how the texts are different (like one may focus more on their habitat or diet).
WRITING: Diving into our Opinion Unit! We will first focus on learning the difference between FACTS and OPINIONS. Talk about these things at home as often as you can! For example, you can give 1 fact and 1 opinion about dinner: "Mom bought the chicken from Publix, fact!" and "I believe chicken is delicious, opinion!" We will then move into writing about our opinions, and supporting them with reasons. These reasons need to be STRONG! We have to teach the kiddos not to say, "I like pizza for dinner because it's cool!" A strong reason would be, "I like ordering pizza for dinner because it is quick and easy!"
MATH: Continuing measurement. Students need to be able to estimate measurements, choose the correct tool/unit to measure with (ruler, yard stick, centimeters), and accurately measure lengths and widths. Please practice measuring things at home! Make it fun!
LANGUAGE: Practicing Contractions- students need to know how to make them, and take them apart.
EX- can + not = can't .... or don't = do + not
IXL: Y.1 through Y.6.
SCIENCE: We are starting our causes of change unit. This unit covers changes to our Earth such as weathering, erosion, drought, flood, pollution, and more.
HEALTH: Resepcting others Opinions and Preferences
