11/11- Math Test

11/17- Social Studies Test

What we're learning:

- Reading: We will be continuing to find the main idea and supporting details in texts that we read. This skill helps students understand how topics can be strengthened and supported by details, and shows them also how authors stay on topic in their writing. Try to pick out the main idea while reading at home!

- Writing: We are publishing our class book this week! Students have already drafted their pages, and will begin publishing and illustrating their contribution page. Please consider ordering a copy of our book online! It's truly a special keepsake to commemorate the year.

After we finish our class book, we will begin our Opinion Writing Unit. This unit is so much fun because it can spark a lot of conversations at home- discuss your opinions on food, tv shows, music, chores, etc! Be sure to support your opinions with reasons!

- Grammar: Capitalization! It has been a big struggle this year to remember our capital letters, so we will work on this for 2 weeks. Our focus is to remember to always capitalize the letter "I" by itself, names, holidays, and geographic locations. Its great to support this at home by searching for capital letters and explaining WHY it should be capitalized.

(ex: Target starts with a capital T because it is a store name)

- Math: Wrapping up Unit 2! Please refer to the parent letter and the videos sent previously. The best ways to practice are by mimicking the math journal problems, and simply changing the numbers/names/etc. Give your child example problems worded the same way as you see in the journals, and ask them to solve their addition or subtraction problems using more than one method. They should also talk to you about strategies, like if they did mental math by "counting on", "using fact families", or "doubles facts".

- Here is an IXL list, but as previously stated, changing up the journal problems are the preferred method of practice: G.9, G.11, H.4, H.8, H.9, H.10, H.11, P.1, P.3, P.4, P.6, P.8, P.10, P.12, P.14, P.15, R.1, R.2, R.3, and R.4.

Social Studies: Continuing Elected Officials/Starting Human Rights- we have covered who our elected officials are, what they are leaders of, and where they work. Next we will talk about Jimmy Carter and his contributions to Human Rights. An elected officials/vocabulary homework will go home on the 9th, and is due the next day as usual.

Both topics (elected officials and Jimmy Carter) will be covered on the Unit Test on 11/17.

We will also have coding with Ms. Senne on 11/10!

Thank you all for your support!

Mrs. Crisp
