Hi everyone!
Here is what you need to know for the next couple of weeks:
-- "Screen on the Green" is Friday, September 23rd at 7:00 p.m- Showing "Zootopia" rain or shine!
-- The Unit 1 Math Test is coming up! We use the interactive notebooks as study guides, and IXL practice to reinforce skills. Notebooks will go home towards the end of the week for your child to study with. It is VITAL that these notebooks do not get lost! Students will use them to study, then they must come back to school after the test- we use these all semester until they are full!
-- Author Visit in the media center on September 28th- remember to turn in any book orders that came in the VIPs!
-- Our first coding session with Ms. Senne is on 9/29!
Reading: Non-Fiction Text Features- Read informational texts at home/in their spare time and point out the text features they find (captions, headings, labels, etc). Ask them how the text feature helped them learn more about the topic.
Writing: Zooming in on our "small moments"- This is the last week we will be focusing on adding details to our writing. Next week we will begin learning all about the different leads students can use for their stories.
Grammar: Continuing Adverbs! We will be publishing adverb poems this week. Try and use adverbs to describe ways family members do things at home! (quickly, sloppily, often, nightly...)
IXL Practice: V.1, V.2, W.1, and W.2. Students can also continue practicing their adjective skills using these activities: T.1, T.2, T.3, and T.4
Math: Continuing Unit 1- comparing numbers (practice at home with 3 digit numbers- students should be able to say if something is greater than or less than another, and be able to order numbers from greatest to least or least to greatest), and bar graphs (reading and answering questions about data in a graph). The test will be later in the week of 9/26.
IXL Practice: M.1, M.2, M.4, M.5, M.8, A.7, M.6, M.11, C.2, C.4, M.14, B.2, B.4, and R.2
Science: Intro to Stars and Constellations- We will learn about what stars are made of, why some are brighter than others, and what constellations are! Make it a nightly tradition to look up at the sky and talk about what you see! Can you find constellations?
You may see a homework assignment this week for science!
FYI- 2nd Grade has been reflecting on our homework process/layout. We may try something a little different with next month's homework- so be on the lookout for that information. For now, all is the same for the September homework that is due on 9/30. Please be sure it is signed on both sides before it is turned in.
Thank you for your continued support!
Fondly,
Mrs. Crisp
