Happy September everyone!

Here are some important dates to keep in mind these next few weeks:

--- Tuesday 9/6- Social Studies Homework on regions (DUE WED 7th)

--- Wednesday 9/7- Grammar Homework on adjectives (DUE THURS 8th)

*Please remember students should be reading every night! The READO Board choices are to help with this, and the Whole Child Choice Board is an assignment of itself.

*Practice spelling!!!

--- Wednesday 9/14- Picture Day

--- Thursday 9/15- Spelling Quiz

Our Friday special for the next 2 weeks is counseling with Ms. Aimone!

Take a look at what skills we will be focusing on:

Reading: We are studying how characters respond to major events. For this skill, it is important that students be able to identify the ways characters react to problems in the story they are reading. It's also great to ask how they characters' feeling have cha need from the beginning to the end.

ELA: Our grammar skills are focusing on adjectives and adverbs. For many students, this is a fun time to remember and learn new salsa words to use in our writing! A cool way to practice at home is by asking your child to use adjectives to describe household items, and adverbs to describe ways they/you are doing things.

For IXL Grammar practice, you can visit: T.1, T.2, T.3, and T.4

Writing: We're continuing our small moments (narrative) writing. By now, many students have 3-6 pieces of writing they have created! During writer's workshop, students are often encouraged to revisit old pieces as we learn new skills (like adjectives and adverbs!) and see how they can make their writing better. They're also able to write new pieces at that time as well. We are focusing on adding details to our writing, a making the reader feel like they are really there.

One thing I have learned over the years is that great story-tellers are great writers. I encourage you and your family to tell stories together! Family favorites, those ones we tell over and over on the holidays, are such great stories to get their minds wrapped around story writing.

Math: "Unit 1- Understanding Base Ten" continues! We will be working on understanding the difference in PLACE (a number's position, such as the ones place, tens place, or hundreds place), and VALUE (how much a digit is worth). We will also be exploring the different ways numbers can be represented, as seen below:

For IXL Math practice, feel free to check out the following 2nd grade activities: M.1, M.2, M.4, M.5, M.8, A.7, M.6, M.11, B.2, B.3, and B.4. Also, please see the parent letter sent at the beginning of the unit for specifics and ideas.

Social Studies: Our Georgia Unit continues, as we learn more about the regions, and also the major rivers and their uses in GA.

As always, thank you for all that you do!

I am truly enjoying every day with your children.
