I hope everyone has enjoyed Spring Break with your family, friends, and Flat Stanley!

I can't wait to hear all about your adventures!

Important Info:

  • We will be going on a field trip to the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center on Wednesday, April 27th to learn more about life cycles and pollination. Permission slips will be sent home sometime this week. Please keep an eye out for this form. I need all completed permission slips returned to me by Wednesday, April 20th.

  • Georgia Milestones testing will occur from Tuesday, April 12th – Tuesday, April 26th. Although our 2nd graders do not participate in the Georgia Milestones testing, it does impact our schedule. WCES is asking that during this time frame we refrain from having visitors both during lunch and in our classrooms. I appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Here's what you need to know about next week:

Social Studies: We will be finishing our Civil Rights Unit (MLK & Jackie Robinson). A study guide will be completed and sent home Monday. We will test on Friday the 15th.

Reading: We will be studying biographies in connection with our writing. As a class we will read about "Grandma Moses" and look at the important aspects of a biography.

We will also share our adventures with Flat Stanley! Don't forget that Flat Stanley projects are due Tuesday, April 12th

Writing: As we continue our informational Unit, we will publish our biography pieces. Most students have completed their writing, and will be creating a video recording of their piece by reading it aloud on the ipads. (via Chatter Pix or Tellagami) We are continuing to build our writing stamina, with the goal of writing uninterrupted for 30 minutes a day!

Grammar: As we get back into the swing of things, we will work on building strong detailed sentences again. Remembering that a strong sentence has a subject, predicate, and details.

Math:

Group 1: Continuing Unit 5 (Geometry and Fractions) We will be learning how to partition circles/rectangles and identifying fractional amounts such as halves, thirds and fourths. We plan for the unit test to be sometime around the 20th/21st, and will be sending home Math Journals to use for study at the end of next week. Please remember to send them back each day.

Group 2: Continuing Unit 2 - This week we will focus mostly on data and graphs. Students will learn how to analyze and create line plots specifically, and line graphs.
