Here's what you need to know for next week!

Thursday the 12th is another Community Night- this means homework is due on Thursday. Since that makes the week shorter for studying, and next week is only 4 days, the spelling quiz will be NEXT Thursday the 19th.

Social Studies: We are continuing our unit about Gerogia's Beginnings- we will be learning about the Creek & Cherokee Indians, Tomochichi, James Oglethorpe, and Mary Musgrove.

Reading: Our standard covers "historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text". We will be focusing on social studies concepts in school. At home, you can support this by reading manuals and how to guides!

Grammar: We will be learning Collective Nouns, which are phrases like, "litter of kittens" and "school of fish". Exposure is really the best way to learn this, so try to point them out anytime you can.

Writing: Now that we are done with "Small Moments" (narrative) writing, we will start our Opinion Unit. Students often have a hard time deciphering bewteen facts and opinions, so talking about those at home will help. You can ask your child's opinion about something, and then to also give you a fact about it.

Math: Both groups tested on Friday, so we will begin our new units Monday.

GROUP 1- Unit 3 is all about measurement and time. These are great life skills you can readily practice at home!

GROUP 2- Unit 6 is more about arrays, and sets student's up for learning multiplication. Before learning multiplication, it helps for students to understand "repeated addition" before multiplication. Learning tehir "times tables" is often just memorization without understanding the foundation for what it means. It will help if at home they were supported in learning how the repeated addition works first, as that is how we are meant to teach it.

As always, the 2nd grade website has great resources!

Thanks for all you do!
