I can't believe our first 9 weeks is up! I am so proud of everyone and how far we've already come in this short amount of time. We've been busy, busy! As you know, we've started our class garden, and we can't wait to see some veggies grow! We're also working on many overlapping skills, like money and fact families.
Here's the newest scoop-
Science- Our unit test will be Thursday the 29th. Please continue to study!
Reading- We are continuing our Folktales unit and will test on Friday the 30th. Students will be assessed on their ability to identify the moral of a story, and compare and contrast different versions of a folktale (ex: The Three Little Pigs compared to The Three Ninja Pigs)
Writing/Grammar- We're almost done with our narrative unit, and are still working on punctuation. Any "small moments" you can write at home are great practice. Continue looking for punctuation in their reading- where do they see apostrophes? Commas? Finding real life examples help students understand how they are used.
Math- GROUP 1: We are working on addition and subtraction, and word problems. They are in the GA Unit "2", and you can find resources on the 2nd grade website. Our thoughts are that the test will be sometime next week, details to come. Please remember that the "algorithm" is not an acceptable method for solving addition or subtraction in 2nd grade.
GROUP 2: We are in GA Unit "5", which is all about geometry & partitioning. Students are learning about polygons, their attributes, sides/vertices/faces, and more. We are starting to practice partitioning, which leads into fractions. Looking for fractions in real life will help your students understand how they are used and why "equal shares" are important. As always, the 2nd grade website has resources. We will hopefully be testing next week, and I will let you know when the date is set.
THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO! :)
