Notes from Mrs. Crisp:

--- Thank you all again, from the bottom of my heart, for all of the sweet Valentine's Day goodies! You all make me feel so special, and I appreciate every act of kindness.

Reading: Folktales & Fables

Got a favorite old folktale from your culture? An old story Grandma used to tell you? This would be the perfect time to share with your child! We're learning all about how cultures used folktales to help explain things in the world around them, and how fables teach us a lesson or moral. These are so much fun to read and talk about, so please explore some during your child's nightly 20 minutes.

Writing: Informational, Lab Reports

We will start a different type of informational unit called Lab Reports. Students will learn how to write like scientists! They will write about exploring a problem, making a hypothesis, and drawing conclusions from their data/experiments.

Grammar: Shades of Meaning

This skill is all about expanding students' vocabulary. We take a word, and talk about the "weaker" and "stronger" ways to say that word. For example, the word "look" is in the middle of this weight scale. In order from weakest to strongest you could say:

Peek --> Glance --> Look --> Stare

This is fun to do with family, try it at dinner!

Math: Unit 4- Guess and Check Problems and Money Word Problems

Please refer to the Unit 4 Parent Letter for explicit information on skills needed for this unit.

We will be working on Money Word Problems, and continuing our practice of "Guess and Check" problems.

Please know that it is VITAL that practice is being done at home. Due to scheduling difficulties and activities at school, students will miss 3 days of math instruction. Please continue working hard at home, and practicing those harder guess and check skills, and inverse operation (see picture below). We are looking to test the 2nd week of March.

---Practice adding three or more 2-digit numbers, using our methods.

Science: Astronomy

We are furthering our knowledge of stars, sun, moon, seasons, and more! It's always great to read books on these topics during your child's nightly 20!

Health: Colds & Flu, Lice, and Managing Anger

Thanks for all you do!

- Mrs. Crisp
